Does Medicare Insurance Cover Hearing Aids?

When it comes to figuring out anything with health insurance, it can be difficult. Insurance plans have so many caveats and riders and addendums that it feels like you might as well be reading Latin.
But at South Shore Hearing Center, we have insurance specialists who look at them all the time and understand them! Which means we can work with your insurance company and let you know what’s covered in your insurance plan.
When it comes to Medicare, are hearing aids and hearing evaluations covered or not? As always, it depends.
Does Medicare Insurance cover hearing aids? Many Medicare insurance plans do not include coverage of hearing aids.
Here’s what Medicare covers.
Medicare
Original Medicare doesn’t cover hearing aids or exams for fitting hearing aids. You pay 100% of the cost for hearing aids and fitting exams.
Original Medicare | Doesn’t cover hearing aids or exams for fitting hearing aids. |
Medicare Advantage Plans | Offer extra benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover – like vision, hearing, or dental. |
Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) | Covers diagnostic hearing and balance exams if your doctor or other healthcare provider orders them to see if you need medical treatment. |
But even though Medicare doesn’t cover the cost of hearing aids, there are many ways we can help you come up with the best hearing aids and payment plan for your lifestyle and circumstances.
