To get the most out of any hearing aid, you should talk with an audiologist.

I first noticed my hearing loss about 30 years ago. Words became increasingly difficult to understand accurately, and it was clear I needed help. After wearing hearing aids for about a decade, I moved to the South Shore area and started looking for a new audiologist.

South Shore Hearing Center immediately stood out to me. Their staff are all experts in their field, which was exactly what I needed for my more advanced hearing loss. While those with mild hearing issues might not require such specialized support, I wanted the best possible results with my aids.

This team will provide excellent customer service! With any new aid there is a long learning curve, and you might require multiple adjustments to get the most out of your investment. If you want high-quality advice and recommendations, go to South Shore Hearing Center.

The South Shore Hearing Center team are nice folks, I visited others and decided on them.

I’ve known about my hearing loss for a long time. It runs in my family – my dad had otosclerosis, and I inherited it. It was confirmed at U/Conn hospital, and I wasn’t surprised.

Finding the right audiologist was crucial to me. I’d worked with professionals in Connecticut before, so I knew I wanted experienced, qualified experts. The South Shore Hearing Center team are nice folks, I visited others and decided on them.

I loved working with Abby, she was fantastic!

I can't leave home without them!

I never thought I had a hearing problem until my coworkers encouraged me to get checked. South Shore Hearing Center came highly recommended by one of my clients.

Getting hearing aids has been life-changing. They’ve become an essential part of my daily routine – I can’t leave home without them!

I’m so pleased with my experience that I’m trying to convince my brother to get tested too. For anyone wondering if they need help with their hearing, I’d say don’t hesitate.

"South Shore Hearing Center is absolutely the best place I've done business with!"

About three years ago, I started noticing some changes in my hearing. I’d heard great things about South Shore Hearing Center from other patients who had their hearing aid problems solved there, so I decided to give them a try.

Please be assured of my feeling that they are among the best, as they are very professional in all that they do. South Shore Hearing Center is absolutely the best place I’ve done business with!

I didn't want to be 'the old man with hearing aids.' The reality is most people don’t even notice I am wearing them.

My friends and family had been telling me I needed hearing aids for quite some time, but I didn’t want them. I would say, “If you just spoke clearly and didn’t mumble…” After getting the hearing aids, I realized that my friends and family were less frustrated with me.

I decided to have my hearing tested at South Shore Hearing Center to see exactly what my issues were. Everyone was very nice, understanding and knowledgeable. Kaitlyn Foley put my fears to rest. My favorite part of visiting SSHC is the friendliness of the personnel and I also appreciate how accommodating everyone is.

My life has greatly improved as a result of hearing everyone and everything around me.

Go and have your hearing checked—hearing aids are life-changing. You will feel very comfortable wearing them.

I can now hear people clearly without needing to ask them to repeat themselves several times.

I first noticed a slight ringing in my ear that wouldn’t go away. I tried everything, from flushing my ear with solutions to holding my breath and clearing my ears until they popped, and even using ear drops. It wasn’t until I heard about tinnitus that I realized that it might be what I had. I went to South Shore Hearing Center in South Weymouth, MA, and had a full hearing test done.

My first impression was that I liked the staff and how professional everyone was, but they were also friendly and concerned about my problem. The only fear I had was that they might not be able to help me. But I was wrong. After several tests, they knew it was tinnitus

I wear just one hearing aid in my right ear, and it has helped me hear what I had been missing for a while.

If someone is concerned about their hearing and is considering visiting South Shore Hearing Center, I would tell them to go for it. Get a full hearing test done, and let the caring staff and audiologists help you with your hearing issues. You won’t be sorry you did—they will work with you to ensure you hear correctly.

My favorite thing about working with South Shore Hearing Center is Dr. Mayer. She is very open about options and very helpful with testing and revisiting performance and adjustments after I got the new rechargeable aids I needed. She’s also friendly!

When I was a manager in an office setting, I realized I was having a hard time hearing when people I supervised came into my cubicle to discuss concerns, where they were talking “low.” It finally occurred to me that they weren’t talking too softly; it was happening with everyone, so I knew I needed to have my hearing checked. It was very frustrating and interfering with my job.

I didn’t have any preconceived fears before contacting South Shore Hearing Center. I was looking for relief and was ready and hopeful for hearing aids that would help me. I had recently moved back to MA and already had a decade of hearing aid use, so I was just looking for a new doctor to help upgrade my aids. Everyone at South Shore Hearing Center was friendly and helpful, presenting me with many options. I was very happy with the staff.

Wearing hearing aids has changed my life! I have high-frequency hearing loss, so I have a hard time distinguishing hard consonants (d, t, p sounds all sound the same). I realize now that I was almost lip-reading before I got the hearing aids. I couldn’t walk behind someone and understand them without being able to see their faces. For the most part, I’ve stopped having to ask people to repeat themselves, which was so frustrating and embarrassing.

If someone is concerned about their hearing and is considering visiting South Shore Hearing Center, I would say do it! It’s the best thing I ever did for myself, and now that insurance can cover some of the cost, it’s worth investigating! They will test you, and it’s worth having that baseline to know if there’s a real physical issue with your hearing. You aren’t obligated to buy anything, so get tested!

Thank you to your team of people who are always so helpful and positive

Michelle Shares The Heartwarming Story of Our 2022 Hear For The Holidays Winner and the Life-Changing Impact of the Gift of Hearing

“As we recently completed our last scheduled meeting I would like to take this time to say THANK YOU to you and your team. Never did I expect that we would be chosen for this wonderful opportunity. I am appreciative in so many ways that I do not feel I can do it justice in these words.
Thank you!

Thank you for your patience with us as we go through this process

Thank you for your time, arranging late appointments for us to meet and your perseverance to address/answer/resolve our questions or issues.

Thank you to your team of people who are always so helpful and positive

Thank you and your distributor for making this opportunity possible.

I would also like to share with you the impact this has had on our lives.

Recently we went to a friend’s house to watch the Super Bowl game. Giovanni’s typical MO would be to watch the game, enjoy the food and at a point in the night fall asleep, generally around 9pm. This past year I observed Giovanni engaged with conversation, watching the game, laughing at some of the commercials and most notably he did not fall asleep at any point of the night. Additionally, after our last appointment we met my son’s soon to be in-laws for dinner. We found ourselves in a crowded restaurant with noise all around. Giovanni was able to hold conversations with everyone and join in the celebration of the night (1 year mark until the wedding).

In both of these events I could see a huge change in him. What I had hopped would happen if he had hearing aids has and he is experiencing life a little differently now. Sitting at dinner with the new in-laws, I thought about the wedding day and that he will actually participate and get to enjoy all the important moments of the day. This is what you made possible, not only for that day but for each day.

As we all adjust to this new world, we will uncover what other changes we will need to make that we did not realize we did. One that I do know is that we will have to stop taking bets on what time he will fall asleep during parties.

Thank you to everyone. Our gratitude and appreciation could not be greater.”

An Appointment Worth Making

“I would tell anyone to go visit South Shore Hearing Center.”

“I’ve had difficulty hearing since junior high. Prior to my appointment, I was concerned about the price of the hearing aids. I love the new Bluetooth technology. I would tell anyone to go visit South Shore Hearing Center. They have great staff, and they follow through with follow-up appointments.”

Repetition Becomes History For Janice

b>“It was a nice office, friendly staff, professional”

“I noticed my hearing challenge while at my job when I missed important instructions because I didn’t hear them correctly. I thought I was too ‘young’ for hearing aids. I thought everyone would know I was wearing them. In reality, no one notices them!

“It was a nice office, friendly staff, professional. Now, I am not constantly saying ‘Excuse me.’ Before, sometimes I had to ask someone to repeat what they said three times before I got it right.

“I have recommended South Shore Hearing Center to my brother and his wife and told them how much better their life would be if they considered getting hearing aids.”

Not Even A Pandemic Can Stop Jack From Achieving Better Hearing

“I can’t imagine life without them.”

The pandemic has changed the way we live, work, and even communicate. The latter is particularly true for Jack – though it has resulted in an outcome that’s better than he ever anticipated.

Jack explains, “I’ve known for a while that I’ve had hearing issues, but the pandemic highlighted my problem. Since I read lips to aid in my hearing deficit, I noticed how bad my hearing was, as everyone was wearing a mask.”

Unfortunately, it was a long-time stigma that had previously held him back from getting hearing aids – the fear of looking “old.”

Jack admits he was concerned that “only the elderly wear hearing aids.”

However, once he visited South Shore Hearing Center, that stigma was quickly put to rest. The team did their best to put Jack at ease, and he says he found them to be “Professional; made me feel very relaxed and treated me with respect.”

Now, with his hearing aids, Jack finds life so much easier. He explains, “I can’t imagine life without them. I’m no longer turning the TV up to a painful level. I can hear all my students in the classroom. I’m no longer saying … ‘What did you say? Can you repeat that again?’”

Even more important is the lesson he learned from his experience that he’d like to share with others. He says, “There is no shame in wearing hearing aids. South Shore Hearing Center will treat you with respect and listen to your concerns.

“Hearing aids don’t make you look old – continually asking … ‘Can you say that again?’ is what makes you look old.”

- Jack W.

How Hearing Aids Reconnected Lucinda To Her World

“I couldn’t get around without them.”

“I can’t remember when I first noticed my hearing loss. It happened little by little.

“South Shore Hearing Center was recommended by a friend.

“My hearing aids have improved my relationships with friends and family. I couldn’t get around without them.

“The special device to enhance the TV sound is fabulous. If you are considering hearing aids, I’d say, ‘Do it yesterday.’ My husband has had a hearing loss for 20+ years and refuses to get hearing aids. He was troubled that I had to go so often to have them adjusted in the beginning and therefore thought they were a waste of money. Not for me!

“Life at home with his hearing loss is not easy. South Shore Hearing Center has been helpful, available, and pleasant for me. If it is convenient for you, give them a go.”

- Lucinda D.

When A Little Bit Of Help Goes A Long Way

“My hearing aids help me to be involved in conversations.”

“I realized I had a hearing loss when I was having a hard time hearing the TV and people in meetings. I didn’t really have any concerns before my appointment. I was just hoping they could help. I found everyone at South Shore Hearing Center to be very friendly and concerned about my issue. Now, my hearing aids help me to be involved in conversations, don’t have to keep asking ‘what.’ If you are having trouble hearing, go and get checked. They are the best and can help.”

- Stephen B.

Hearing Goals Accomplished

“I’m glad there is a place where I can get what I need.”

“In 1942, I had the German Measles and I became DEAF when I was two years old in Camp LeJeune, NC during World War II. So, I do not feel about it. Not at all. I’m glad that there is a place where I can get what I need. Why worry? How do I know if there is somebody who has a loss of hearing? Mostly, they won’t admit about it! I know!”

- Terrance M. – (I am celebrating my 82nd birthday today!)

Hearing Care That’s Music To Grace’s Ears

“They will make you feel at peace with your hearing loss.”

Grace experienced hearing challenges since she was a baby. As she grew older, she became more aware of the impact her hearing loss had on her life.

She says, “Learning in school was my biggest concern. I was afraid of missing things that teachers would say.”

With South Shore Hearing Center on her side, Grace’s concerns were addressed and she is grateful to the team for their ongoing and caring support.

She explains, “It’s a wonderful place with very kind workers. They make me feel normal and I love being able to play music in my hearing aids.”

Grace has no hesitation in recommending South Shore Hearing Center to anyone who is contemplating an appointment. She remarks, “I would tell them that is a great place and they will make you feel at peace with your hearing loss.”

Hearing Feels Natural Again For Charles

“It makes a world of difference.”

“I gradually noticed that I was missing words or ‘hearing’ the wrong word when people, mostly women, spoke to me. I didn’t have any concerns prior to my appointment – I was looking forward to it.

“Everyone at South Shore Hearing Center was very professional. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, I didn’t get to see any faces.

“It took a while to adjust to the improvement [with my hearing aids]. Now, I don’t even notice it. The only time I feel uncomfortable with the aid is when I have to wear a mask.

“At first, there was always the fear of losing it when I removed the mask. I started wearing an extender so the mask doesn’t go behind my ears anymore. I am still uncomfortable with the mask and tend to not wear the hearing aid when I must wear the mask for a long time.

“If you are considering visiting South Shore Center, then do it! It makes a world of difference. There is a short (several days) period of getting used to it/them, but after that, it/they are just a part of your life.”

I developed language and am able to live in a hearing world.

Dylan has worn hearing aids from a young age. But with the support from his audiologist at South Shore Hearing Center, he is thriving at school and looks forward to the future.

He says, “Mom brought me to the doctor when I was almost two years old. When I received my hearing aids for the first time, I was amazed at all the sounds I could hear. My mom wondered if hearing aids would help, and she was worried about how to select aids that would be best.”

Referring to his first appointment at South Shore Hearing Center, Dylan says, “Mom said everyone was kind and friendly. And the audiologist quickly put her mind at ease.”

Dylan is grateful for his hearing aids and is progressing well. “I developed language and am able to live in a hearing world,” he says. “School is a challenge, but the HAT system works well. I still have a tough time outside and in noisy settings, but the technology is always getting better, which is exciting.”

Rating South Shore Hearing Center a 10/10, Dylan adds, “SSH has helped me find the best aids for my type of hearing loss, which has changed my life.”

Everyone was friendly and helpful.

Whenever Gert’s daughter mentioned that her mother might have a hearing loss, Gert found herself in denial. “My daughter was always saying this, but I felt she mumbles and didn’t take her seriously,” says Gert.

Eventually, Gert made an appointment with South Shore Hearing Center. She recalls that the office “was very bright and cheery.”

Following her comprehensive hearing assessment, Gert was prescribed hearing aids. However, Gert says, “I haven’t been able to wear mine due to brain shunt issues.”

Nevertheless, Gert gives South Shore Hearing Center a 10/10 rating and hopes others will make an appointment. She says, “I would tell them to go to your facility, as everyone was friendly and helpful.”

For the moment, Jeffery can continue to go about his daily life without needing hearing aids.

Jeffery rates South Shore Hearing Center a 10/10, advising others, “Go see South Shore Hearing.”

Greatly improved my life

“I knew I’d be wearing hearing aids later in life but not at 44 due to a surgical procedure,” says Marilyn.

Aware that her hearing loss shouldn’t be left untreated, Marilyn turned to South Shore Hearing Center for help. Her main concern was “how much loss of hearing” was there.

At her first appointment, Marilyn was impressed with the “nice people” and says they “explained the process well.” As for her new hearing aids, she says they have “greatly improved my life,” and adds, “I can hear.”

Rating South Shore Hearing Center a 10/10, she advises anyone contemplating an appointment, “Just do it. Go.”

My hearing aids have been my lifeline since I was 13. They've opened up a world of possibilities I might never have known otherwise.

I’ve lived with hearing loss for as long as I can remember. It’s believed I lost my hearing around age two due to mumps, before vaccination was available. Hearing aids have been a part of my life for over 45 years now, and I can’t imagine where I’d be without them.

When I visited South Shore Hearing Center, I felt immediately at ease. The staff were comfortable and approachable, making the entire experience pleasant. Their expertise and care have been invaluable in my hearing journey.

I’m convinced that without my hearing aids, I wouldn’t have achieved nearly as much in my education and career. They’ve truly been transformative.

You will be amazed by just how much of a difference better hearing can make in your life. Alicia O’Sullivan takes the time to get to know her patients, and as a result, she knows how to work with them at the level they need.

- Nancy B.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

I may not need hearing aids yet, but I'm glad I took the first step.

I first noticed something might be off when I had trouble hearing my wife from across the room. The TV volume also became a point of contention. Despite these small signs, I didn’t think much of it and viewed my visit to South Shore Hearing Center as a routine check-up.

Walking into the clinic, it felt like any other medical office, but the staff’s professionalism put me at ease. While I haven’t been fitted for hearing aids at this point, the experience was eye-opening. It made me realize the importance of regular hearing checks, even when you think everything’s fine.

To anyone on the fence about getting their hearing checked, I’d say don’t hesitate. Go for it. It’s better to stay on top of your hearing health than to wait until issues become more noticeable.

- Paul N.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

I finally feel like I'm part of the conversation again, without constantly asking 'WHAT?'

As a retired shop teacher, I knew my years around loud machinery had taken their toll on my hearing. It became increasingly clear when I found myself cranking up the TV volume, much to the annoyance of others.

South Shore Hearing Center was recommended by my primary care physician as the place to go to get a thorough exam. They were very professional, pointed out my specific options, provided advice and included a two-month trial period where a change could be made if necessary.

Getting the right hearing aids has been transformative. My wife no longer needs to yell, and I can engage in conversations without constantly asking people to repeat themselves.

- James K.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Make the call and find out about your hearing.

I first noticed my hearing wasn’t quite right when I struggled to catch dialogue in newer films.

The South Shore Hearing Center team were incredibly helpful and upfront. They answered all my questions, which put me at ease. They helped me to understand my situation with my hearing.

- Wil B.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

If you need hearing aids, get them.

I was working as a Stage Manager and started to miss lines of dialogue. It was unacceptable and posed a hazard to everyone I worked with and also my career.

South Shore Hearing Center immediately impressed me with their friendly, caring approach. From the moment I walked in, I felt we were on the same page.

I’ve been wearing hearing aids for so long now – at least a decade, maybe two – that they’ve become an essential part of my life. They’ve been a game-changer, especially when I’m performing. Now I can hear the high notes on my guitar, giving me a better sense of what the audience experiences.

But it’s not just about music. I’m aware that untreated hearing loss can lead to withdrawal and depression. With everything else going on in life, I’m grateful I don’t have to add that to the mix.

I’m a strong advocate for hearing aids. They’ve kept me engaged in my work and passions.

- Phil C.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

The team were helpful and answered all my questions, especially those my daughter had.

My right ear has been bothering me for years. My doctor suggested I have my hearing checked at South Shore Hearing Center.

The team were helpful and answered all my questions, especially those my daughter had. I hear better now and can adjust them with my cell phone whenever necessary.

What stood out to me most was the service and friendliness of the team.

- Elaine P.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

South Shore Hearing Center will guide you to exactly what you need.

I first noticed my hearing wasn’t quite right when the TV seemed quiet and garbled.

Since getting my hearing aids, I’ve worn them every single day. They’ve made a world of difference in my daily life.

It was great working with Alicia O’Sullivan, who was the perfect person for my needs. She pointed me to exactly what I needed!

SSHC is a good choice, no nonsense, they will guide you to exactly what you need.

- William C.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

I feel more confident in my everyday life now that I'm not missing conversations.

I first noticed my hearing was declining while at work. I work as a nurse and was not hearing verbal orders given by the doctors.

I was very self-conscious about wearing hearing aids, so I wanted something not very noticeable. I also have a difficult work schedule, and SSHC was always able to work around it.

The staff were incredibly helpful, even taking the time to research my insurance coverage to ensure the service was covered. Their thorough and caring approach put me at ease right away.

If you’re on the fence about seeking help for your hearing, I’d encourage you to explore what South Shore Hearing Center has to offer. Don’t count it out before learning about your options.

- Patty

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Run, don't walk. Don't worry about someone seeing them and thinking you're old. Who cares now you can hear clearly!

I first noticed my hearing wasn’t what it used to be when I kept missing words in conversations. It was frustrating and embarrassing – I felt like I looked stupid.

Visiting South Shore Hearing Center was a new experience, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But from the moment I walked in, they treated me like a person with a small problem that could be easily fixed. Their approach made me feel comfortable and relaxed right away.

The team at South Shore Hearing Center found the perfect solution for me. My right ear hearing is very weak, so they fitted me with hearing aids where the sound from my right ear crosses to the left side. Now, voices sound natural again.

At South Shore Hearing Center, you are treated like family, and everyone is concerned about improving your hearing.

- Don D.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

I never realized how much I was missing until I got my hearing aids. Now, I can understand even soft-spoken people in noisy environments.

About a decade ago, I noticed my hearing wasn’t what it used to be. It was incredibly concerning, both personally and professionally. I hesitated to seek help, worried that I’d end up with large, conspicuous hearing aids. The potential cost also made me apprehensive.

Despite my concerns, I decided to visit South Shore Hearing Center. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by their professionalism.

I never realized how much I was missing until I got my hearing aids. Now, I can understand even soft-spoken people in noisy environments.

I would recommend South Shore Hearing Center to anyone considering doing something about their hearing loss.

- Neil

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Without my hearing aids, I wouldn't have been able to continue in our business.

I first realized I had a hearing problem during a crucial business meeting. I misunderstood a potential client and responded inappropriately, that’s when I knew I needed help.

Initially, I was a bit worried about how hearing aids would look. But those concerns quickly faded when I visited South Shore Hearing Center. The staff were friendly and professional, immediately putting me at ease.

It’s been 15 years since I got my hearing aids, and I’m incredibly thankful. The technology has improved so much over time. With Bluetooth connectivity, I can take phone calls directly through my hearing aids, which is fantastic for work.

As my hearing continued to decline, I started using a small wireless microphone that transmits to my hearing aids. It’s been a lifesaver in noisy restaurants and family gatherings. My grandchildren love to take my microphone, run into the next room and have a conversation with me.

If you’re on the fence about getting your hearing checked, I’d say do it. You can work with a qualified audiologist to determine your place on the hearing scale, try out hearing aids suited to your needs for a nominal fee, and then make an informed decision about whether to proceed. Not being able to hear affects your quality of life.

- Peter F.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

The stigma surrounding hearing aids was my biggest fear.

I wasn’t able to participate in conversations when out to dinner in restaurants because I wasn’t hearing what was being said.

From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff who put me at ease. My audiologist was incredibly understanding and compassionate, taking the time to explain everything clearly. Her approach made me feel comfortable throughout the entire testing process.

Now I’m able to turn the TV volume to a reasonable level for everyone in the room. I can hear and participate in conversations at the restaurant too!

They were very helpful in making recommendations and pointing out things to watch for when selecting the type of aid that would serve me best while I was considering other providers.

- Wayne B.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

I knew something was wrong when I had to ask people to repeat themselves too often.

At South Shore Hearing Center, I found the professional help I needed without any pushy sales tactics. Unlike my mother’s experience at a national hearing center, the atmosphere here was welcoming and focused on my needs.

Go and let them see if you even need aids, they don’t push so you have nothing to lose! The team are friendly and responsive.

- Mary D.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Wearing hearing aids is the best thing I ever did. Hearing the grandchildren is the very best feeling.

I first noticed my hearing wasn’t what it used to be when I was 49. The thought of needing hearing aids made me nervous – I worried about what my life would be like and what people might say. I am now 66 and I couldn’t imagine not wearing them. You don’t realize how much you are missing. I wish I did it sooner.

I was nervous about my first visit to South Shore Hearing, but they made me feel very comfortable and relaxed when I got there.

Wearing hearing aids is the best thing I ever did. Hearing the grandchildren is the very best feeling. You become more involved in conversations with people rather than just sitting back and not getting involved.

Don’t hesitate to make the call and set up an appointment. It will change your quality of life for the better.

- Mike P.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Better hearing, better life!

I first realized I might have hearing loss while watching my mom struggle with her own. As I watched her hearing check-up, I realized how jumbled her words sounded to her. When she wore her hearing aids, she did much better, but she resisted wearing them unless she was going out somewhere. I wanted to stay ahead of that loss and not miss out on conversations and entertainment opportunities.

While getting hearing aids did not initially have a big impact, I now notice that I can hear more of what is being said in conversations or when listening to a speaker than others around me.

I moved to the South Shore from NH, so I already had my first hearing aids. I had heard good things about SSHC and was happy to find professional and caring support. Now I can fully participate in events at the retirement community where I live, including attending concerts, lectures, and meetings, as well as dining in the restaurant-style dining rooms.

The sooner you get hearing aids, the better the results.

- Jan C.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

I felt something was definitely wrong and blamed my friends for talking too low because they had trouble hearing.

The last straw was a small, crowded restaurant with an open kitchen and high ceilings, where I couldn’t hear any of the conversation.

I was hoping it was just an earwax issue (which it is so far), but I wondered if it wasn’t, could it be successfully treated? I received excellent care, kindness, a helpful referral, and ease of scheduling. Absolutely wonderful. I looked for and found a place that tests and recommends treatment with kindness and professionalism from all the staff.

- Luann S.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Do it!

It all started with a hearing test back in 2016. I felt old when I realized I needed them, and I was worried about the cost.

When I walked into South Shore Hearing Center, I was immediately put at ease. The atmosphere was calm, and the staff were incredibly friendly.

I’ve been wearing hearing aids for several years. They help me keep up with conversations as well as enjoy television.”

The team at South Shore Hearing Center made the process so much easier than I expected, they’re a group of friendly, helpful people.

- Joan

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

If you're concerned about your hearing, I would say don't wait—go get it checked.

I first realized something was wrong with my hearing when my family kept telling me that I had the volume up too high—I hadn’t even noticed. I was bothering others and sometimes missing messages.

Before contacting South Shore Hearing Center, I was worried there might be damage to my ears. When I visited, my first impression was that the staff was open and friendly.

My favorite thing about working with South Shore Hearing Center is that the process was quick and painless.

- Barry G.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

My favorite thing about working with South Shore Hearing Center is that the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and very upfront about the process.

While I was working in construction, I got used to how everyone at work would talk loudly to overcome the noise. Also, working on the flight line in the Air Force, which was noisy, started the decline in my hearing. Plus, 38 years of construction work further contributed to it.

I had some preconceived fears before contacting South Shore Hearing Center. Several friends of mine had hearing aids, and I often heard negative feedback that they didn’t work well, and that people were never satisfied with them.

However, my first impression of South Shore Hearing Center was very positive; the staff was helpful and attentive to my situation.

If someone is concerned about their hearing, I would tell them to get checked out and then decide whether they want to get hearing aids.

- Peter U.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

There was no pressure to move ahead with purchasing hearing aids at my first appointment—just a better understanding of the problem and an assurance that it is manageable.

My biggest concern with my hearing was that I had somehow become okay with the idea that I couldn’t be part of some conversations because I couldn’t make out what people were saying.

I was worried about whether the people closest to me would accept that I would be wearing hearing aids.

I left my first appointment feeling assured that if I wore hearing aids, I could be part of conversations again. I have been wearing hearing aids for over two years now, and I know I am much more engaged in every situation I encounter.

Go to South Shore Hearing Center, listen and learn more about your hearing, and move forward with their advice. You will feel better around people than you have in a while.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

My favorite thing about working with South Shore Hearing Center is how comfortable they make you feel.

I first realized something was up with my hearing while playing Bridge; we didn’t have bidding boxes at the time, and I played the hand in a completely different contract because I didn’t hear my partner.

I didn’t have any preconceived fears before contacting South Shore Hearing Center, and my first impression was very positive—I was especially impressed with Abby.

Since wearing hearing aids, the impact on my life has been positive in all ways. I’ve read that when you start losing your hearing, your brain may stop processing as well as it should, so addressing it is crucial.

To anyone concerned about their hearing, I would say make an appointment—it will be one of the best decisions you make.

- Donna L.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

I first realized something was wrong with my hearing around 1994 when my primary care physician told me that it wasn’t wax causing my hearing loss.

I didn’t have any preconceived fears before contacting South Shore Hearing Center. My first impressions were very positive—I found the staff to be skilled, generous with their time, and careful to listen to my particular concerns.

Since wearing hearing aids, group conversations have become enjoyable again. If someone is concerned about their hearing, I would tell them that South Shore Hearing Center tailors their care to everyone’s needs and concerns. My favorite thing about working with them is their willingness to listen.

- Arthur R.

⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆

Everyone at South Shore Hearing Center genuinely tries to help you.

I was working in an intensive care unit, taking care of a sick patient. One of my favorite physicians was talking to me across the nurses’ station, and I couldn’t hear him. I was frustrated and angry at him for speaking so softly, but then one of my peers pointed out that I had a pump alarm going off, and I hadn’t heard that either. I became anxious, realizing that this couldn’t keep happening.

I went to an ENT, thinking it was just wax buildup. The doctor told me I had the “cleanest ears east of the Mississippi” and diagnosed me with hearing loss. He referred me to South Shore Hearing Center, where I saw Dr. Mayer, and my life has changed dramatically since then.

My biggest concern before contacting South Shore Hearing Center was that not hearing properly might lead to a mistake at work. After getting my hearing aids, I started hearing sounds I hadn’t noticed before, like ice cubes dropping from the ice maker or the washing machine filling up. I even thought there was something wrong with my car, but it turned out to be my keychain hitting the steering column.

My first impression of South Shore Hearing Center was that everyone was so nice. Now, I can’t imagine life without my hearing aids—I’m lost without them. If someone is concerned about their hearing and is considering visiting South Shore Hearing Center, I would tell them to do it. Everyone there is wonderful, and they truly want you to hear.

How Patricia Stopped History From Repeating Itself

“You will get a thorough exam and an unbiased report.”

“I first realized I had a hearing challenge when I was missing out on family conversation. Prior to my hearing loss, my mother refused to get hearing aids. We told her she was missing a lot. Finally, at 80, I insisted she go to a hearing specialist.

“She was in awe at what she had been missing. She was very, very hearing impaired. I was not going to make the same mistake!

“Once told I did not hear something, I went for a test. Very thrilled I did!

“I found the team at South Shore Hearing Center to be very thorough! With my hearing aids, I am able to do more for myself without fear I will miss something.

“I like the automatic control on my new aids, as I can adjust as needed.

“If you go to South Shore Hearing Center, you will get a thorough exam and an unbiased report. They do respect that a budget affects one’s choice and will try to fit the aid and your needs to the budget.”

How Perseverance Paid Off For Nestor

“I felt that I had an understanding partner to help.”

“I have an inherited binaural hearing loss. As a young man, I tried hearing aids but gave up on them, as they were not selective in what they amplified. Although I adapted to my hearing loss, I have always had difficulty in conversations. In the past year, conversation became increasingly difficult and watching television was impossible without closed captioning. Therefore, I made the decision to try hearing aids again after many years.

“Having tried hearing aids many years before with no success, I was concerned that I would find the same problems with the world becoming very noisy and difficult to cope with. Dr. Meyer carefully listened to my story and background. She talked about doing slow adjustments to get me used to the hearing aids. I felt that I had an understanding partner to help.

“With my new hearing aids, conversations have become normal. I can watch TV without closed captioning. It has opened up my social interactions.

“If someone is concerned about their hearing, I would strongly suggest that they talk with the audiologists at South Shore Hearing Center. They understand the challenges of starting with hearing aids and will work with you to make a difference.”

- Nestor C.

How Kathleen Found Her Hearing Solution

“Through modern technology, I am able to hear.”

“I developed a hearing loss as a child. After going to several doctors, I was concerned that this woulđ just be another visit with no solutions. Dr. Citroen was my first contact there and he listened carefully to me and seemed to understand my concerns and fears.

“My new hearing aids have helped me considerably! Through modern technology, I am able to hear, something I thought might never happen.

“If someone was considering an appointment, I would ask them to go there and to make sure that they would give a true and factual information on their hearing limitations and to make sure that it is understood, as communications by both sides is very important for the success of the venture.”

How Quick Action Got George Positive Results

“They seemed very professional.”

“I mentioned a possible loss of hearing to my primary physician who referred me to South Shore Hearing Center and they confirmed the hearing loss. I didn’t have any concerns, as I was old enough to start having hearing problems. My first impression was that they seemed very professional.

“My hearing aids have enhanced some aspects of hearing and also increased annoying mechanical sound levels. I suppose you cannot avoid that.

“If you are thinking of making an appointment, you might as well find out whether you need help.”

Karen’s Hearing Gets Back On Track

“Not hearing was not an option, ever.”

“Losing my hearing was no surprise – my father had otosclerosis, he had an unsuccessful operation in 1945 in New York, and wore a hearing aid all during my life until he died. When I was about 30, my daughter said, ‘Why do you always say huh? When I talk?’ She was young and soft spoken, but I knew what the problem was. A visit to U/Conn ENT department confirmed my suspicion – ‘Classic Otosclerosis.’

“It was several years before I got hearing aids, but I always knew they were in my future. Eventually, I had a stapedectomy which worked – for a few years. If I had known it would not be permanent, I would not have had it. Not hearing was not an option, ever.

“Initially, I was concerned about the expense. Without them, l would be lost.

Why Betsy Is Grateful For Better Hearing

“Don’t let life pass you by because you might be embarrassed.”

“I became concerned about my hearing when I couldn’t hear friends and family talking. My children were getting frustrated with me for having to repeat so much and explain what they were talking about. I felt embarrassed and old when I was only 40 years old and having to get hearing aids.

“My first impressions of South Shore Hearing Center were that they were welcoming and professional. Life is much easier now that I can hear mostly correctly. I still miss some things. I was able to teach elementary school successfully for many years. It would have been impossible to teach phonics and reading without good hearing. I could hear the children!

“Don’t let life pass you by because you might be embarrassed. The money is well spent.”

“Go for it!”

“I realized I might have a hearing loss when my husband was complaining the TV was too loud. An acquaintance was a patient and highly recommended South Shore Hearing Center. “South Shore Hearing Center is very professional. Now, with my new hearing aids, the TV volume is lower and I hear what is being said in conversation or at meetings. I would tell anyone considering a visit to go for it!”

Hearing Is Believing

“I felt they understood the issues with hearing loss.”

Hearing loss can be incredibly sneaky. Because your hearing ability can decline slowly over time, its consequences aren’t always noticeable. But for family and friends, it can be more obvious.

Michael knows this all too well. “At first, I didn’t believe it when my family told me I wasn’t hearing them. Then I realized they were right.”

Michael didn’t want to entrust his hearing healthcare to just anyone. So, he did some research and found the answers he was looking for when he discovered South Shore Hearing Center website.

He recalls, “After reviewing the website, I felt comfortable. Plus they were recommended by Mass Eye & Ear.”

Michael did not hesitate any further and booked himself in for a comprehensive hearing test.

It undoubtedly was the right first step to take. He says, “After getting my hearing tested, it was confirmed I needed help.”

He feels the care he received lived up to his expectations, adding, “I felt they understood the issues with hearing loss.”

Now, with his improved hearing, Michael encourages others to follow in his footsteps.

“Just go and listen to what their recommendations might be. They might be able to help.”

There are so many things that I can now hear.

Although Prudence was fully aware of her hearing loss, she didn’t act immediately to treat it. She says, “I guess I never realized how much I would benefit from a hearing aid until I actually had one on.” But when her health plan offered her a special benefit, Prudence’s curiosity got the best of her and she couldn’t resist the temptation to give South Shore Hearing Center a try.

Prior to her appointment, she says he had no fears but found herself “just wondering how it would be because I only have one functioning ear.” She initially “visited the office in Weymouth, which was difficult for me to get to.” However, she soon became acquainted with the office in Hanover, which she says is “very convenient.”

Following her comprehensive hearing assessment, Prudence was prescribed hearing aids. Now she finds herself getting used to so many sounds that she previously lived without. “There are so many things that I can now hear, such as something so mundane as the clicking of the turn signal of my car, that have made a huge difference,” she says.

Listens to my issues

Charles first noticed he had a hearing challenge a decade ago. He made an appointment with South Shore Hearing Center following a referral.

He explains, “Probably 2013 or so and I was having difficulty hearing/understanding comments at work meetings. I got some of the typical ribbing from coworkers but no big deal. You learn to pay more attention to body language and facial movements to get the gist of the conversation.

“I had previously received my original hearing aids in 2014 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (my place of employment). After my retirement, I did not enjoy the drive into Boston for an appointment and I asked the audiologist for recommendations on the South Shore. She mentioned SSHC, as the owner (?) was someone she had worked with previously, and I have been satisfied since.

“I was assigned to Dr. Kaitlyn Foley and she has been my constant provider since. She listens to my issues and responds effectively.”

Overall, Charles is satisfied with his hearing aids and says they help “when I am in a group situation.” He adds, “They are not 100% perfect, as I hear volume and things are clearer, but I have occasional problems with sound direction.”

It has truly been life changing!

Theresa’s mother was struggling. No matter how many times she tried to get help for her hearing loss, the results were disappointing. And the consequences of her untreated hearing loss were even more daunting.

Theresa recalls, “She had been avoiding social situations and it was starting to affect her mental health.” Not wanting to give up, Theresa suggested that her mother try one more time to get the right type of hearing aid for her unique circumstances. An appointment was made for her mother at South Shore Hearing, and Theresa desperately hoped for the best.

During the comprehensive hearing assessment, Theresa and her mother were able to discuss the challenges she had been facing before having a short series of hearing tests. New hearing aids were prescribed for her mother as a result.

This time, however, her hearing aids were finally a success! Theresa says that her mother’s audiologist, Jennifer, has “changed my mother’s life for the better.” Her mother is so pleased that Theresa suggested one more try.

“Now she is excited about her life and looking forward to all it has to offer,” shares Theresa. “It has truly been life changing.”

Overall, she is very impressed with how well the South Shore Hearing team helped her mother. Theresa says she is very grateful for the “caring and professionalism” her mother experienced during the initial visit and beyond.

“Thank you a million times over!” she exclaims.
